Fergus wins tough contest against Midland, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Fergus Devils escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Midland Flyers.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Brock Philips's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

Fergus was sparked by Philips, who finished with one goal. Philips scored on the power play 14:15 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Fergus. The Devils had taken the advantage when Midland's Cam Russell got sent off for head contact. Matthew Clarke provided the assist.

Fergus stifled the Flyers' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Midland was unable to stop the Devils from sending pucks towards the net, and Fergus eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Fergus also got points from Jack Vautour, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fergus also had goals scored by Cole Bradley and Reese DeBrouwer, who each put in one. In addition, Fergus received assists from Ben Roelofson, who had two and Tyson Bouchard and Joey Shaw, who each chipped in one.

The Flyers forced the Devils goalie Alex Elliott to work between the pipes, taking 53 shots.

Midland was helped by Steven Pickard, who grabbed one goal. Pickard scored 16:06 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Midland. Evan Buehler picked up the assist. Midland additionally got points from Buehler, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Midland were Jon Goldsworthy and Bobby Logan, who contributed one each.

Elliott rejected 51 shots on goal for Fergus. The Devils incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Jake Norton made 36 saves for the Flyers on 40 shots. Midland incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
