Caledon falls to Midland in overtime, 4-3 (OT)Caledon East Arena Sun, Sep 21, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Midland Flyers pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Caledon Golden Hawks on a clutch goal by Jean-Philip Labonte. Labonte was all over the ice for Midland, as he registered two goals in the win. Labonte found the back of the net on the power play 18:17 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 2:03 into the fourth to make the score 4-3 Midland. The Flyers' penalty kill excelled, as Midland gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Midland also got points from Evan Buehler, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Daniel Pickering also scored for Midland. In addition, Midland received assists from Nick Heins, Neal Burgess, and Will Craig, who contributed one each. Caledon forced the Flyers goalie Brandon Klerer to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Golden Hawks were helped by Daniel Cafagna, who finished with one goal. Cafagna scored on the power play 18:24 into the third period to make the score 3-3. An interference penalty on Jon Goldsworthy had put Caledon on the power play. Christian Bonaldi assisted on the tally. Caledon additionally got points from Gaige Van - Asten, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Caledon also got a goal from Chris Smith as well. More assists for Caledon came via Joseph Ruffolo, who had one and Randy Chen, who had two. Klerer recorded 28 saves for Midland. The Flyers incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Golden Hawks' Sam Procopio stopped 23 shots out of the 27 that he faced.
