Fergus beats Erin 4-2 as Murray gets hat trick

James Murray netted a hat trick to lead the Fergus Devils over the Erin Shamrocks, 4-2.

Murray's first goal came 10:41 into the second period. He then added goals at 59 seconds into the third and at 18:06 into the third.

Fergus excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Devils forced Erin goalie Mark Terry to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Fergus additionally got points from Mike Traves, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Fergus were Griffin Heitshu, who had three and Paolo Chemello, Ian Chan, and Jack Vautour, who contributed one each.

The Shamrocks' penalty kill unit could not stop Fergus' power play, which converted on three of three opportunities.

Erin was helped by Mike Nicolucci, who tallied two goals. Nicolucci scored the first of his two goals at 7:05 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Erin. Tyler Topham picked up the assist. Nicolucci's next tally made the score 3-2 Fergus with 2:28 left in the third period. Topham provided the assist. More assists for Erin came via Ben Nicolucci and Adam Gibson, who each chipped in one.

Alex Elliott rejected 26 shots on goal for the Devils. Fergus incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Mark Terry made 39 saves for the Shamrocks on 43 shots. Erin incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
