Smith's goals lift Grimsby to 6-2 victory over Dunnville

Brennan Smith was all over the ice for the Grimsby Peach Kings, as he tallied two goals in Grimsby's 6-2 win over the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats.

Smith scored at 7:36 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 3:17 into the second to make the score 3-1 Grimsby.

The Peach Kings' offense rang up 34 shots on Dunnville's net. Grimsby bested its season scoring average. The Peach Kings have scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign. Grimsby could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Grimsby also got points from Matthew Jambrosich, who also had one goal and one assist and Griffin Roubos, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Grimsby included Christian Gaetano and Curtis Conrad, who each put in one. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Trevor McEneny, Andrew Brown, and Jeromy Hopkins, who each chipped in one and Eric Cerino, Joshua Kozielski, and Curtis Jacques, who contributed two each.

The Jr. Mudcats did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Dunnville averages 4.4 goals per game. The Jr. Mudcats struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 50 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

Dunnville was helped by Evan Huckalo, who registered one goal. Huckalo scored on the power play 2:27 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dunnville. The Jr. Mudcats had gotten the advantage when the Peach Kings' Jacques was sent off for hooking. Mack Steele picked up the assist. Bret Golding also scored for Dunnville. More assists for Dunnville came via Davis Hart, Damien Lalonde, and Chad Springer, who each chipped in one.

Marcus Hlywka recorded 26 saves for Grimsby. The Peach Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Derek Rotter was ejected from the game. Josh Rosettani made 28 saves for Dunnville on 34 shots. The Jr. Mudcats registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
