Hagersville wins tough contest against Simcoe, 3-2

The Hagersville Hawks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Simcoe Storm.

Hagersville gained the winning advantage on a goal by Cole Martin 16:02 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Hawks got the win behind a great game by Martin, who had one goal and two assists.

Simcoe was unable to stop Hagersville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 44 shots on goal.

Hagersville also got points from Mitch Green, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Hagersville also got a goal from Matt Lemasurier as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Lukas Rimac, who had one.

The Storm excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Simcoe forced Hagersville goalie Curtis Dortenzio to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Storm were helped by Connor Mackay, who tallied one goal. Mackay scored on the power play 7:51 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Simcoe. Simcoe had gotten the advantage when the Hawks' Dan Pugliese was sent off for tripping. Ray Munroe picked up the assist. Dakota Culbert also scored for Simcoe. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Matt Small and David Krauss, who each chipped in one.

Dortenzio rejected 35 shots on goal for Hagersville. The Hawks ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Hagersville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jacob Bianchi was ejected from the game. The Storm's Nathen McKinnon stopped 41 shots out of the 44 that he faced. Simcoe totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 2-for-6 on the power play. For the Storm, Kent Wardell was ejected from the game.
