Niagara holds on for 5-4 win against Simcoe

The Niagara Riverhawks survived a determined comeback attempt by the Simcoe Storm on the way to a 5-4 win.

A goal by Franklin Franck put Niagara up 5-3 in the third period, but Simcoe pulled to within one on Matt Small's tally 18:42 into the third period.

The Riverhawks forced the Storm goalie Nathen McKinnon to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Niagara was led by Alex Cipriano, who registered two goals. Cipriano scored the first of his two goals at 14:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara. Dylan Lazarus picked up the assist. Cipriano's next tally made the score 4-3 Niagara with 7:56 left in the third period. Luke Brackett assisted on the tally. Niagara also got points from Lazarus, who also had one goal and one assist. Niagara also got a goal from Peter Falivena as well. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara were Zack Mulvale, who had one and Kyle Robertson, who had three.

Simcoe's offense rang up 39 shots on the Riverhawks' net. The Storm got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Simcoe additionally got points from Ray Munroe, who also finished with two goals and one assist. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Dakota Culbert, Tyler Nagy, Austin Sloot, Sam McPherson, and Riley Wilson, who contributed one each.

Scott Charanduk made 35 saves for Niagara on 39 shots. The Riverhawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Simcoe's McKinnon stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Storm incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
