Horia stymies Niagara, Hagersville wins 2-1

The Hagersville Hawks relied on the sparkling performance of Lucaciu Horia in net to grab a 2-1 win against the Niagara Riverhawks.

Hagersville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 51 penalty minutes.

The Hawks were sparked by Jacob Solomon, who finished with one goal. Solomon scored 8:27 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Hagersville. Clayton Millard provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 6:15 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Hagersville's offense rang up 34 shots on Niagara's net. The Hawks' power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having nine power play opportunities.

Others who scored for Hagersville included Brett Dykstra and Matt Rimac, who scored one goal each. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Jonathan Pace, who had one.

The Riverhawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling 10 minors and three majors for 45 minutes in penalty time. Niagara had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Riverhawks stifled Hagersville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Niagara could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Riverhawks average 3.5 goals per game. Niagara kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Horia made 33 saves on 34 shots.

The Riverhawks were led by Dawson Ethier, who scored the team's only goal. Ethier scored on the power play 16:36 into the second period to make the score 1-1. A high sticking penalty on Travis Bell had put Niagara on the power play. Brandon McLean assisted on the tally.

Team's Bell, Pace, Jake Reichheld, Mitch Green, and Rimac were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Riverhawks' Sebastian Iannone stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Niagara registered one goal on nine power play opportunities. For the Riverhawks, Lucas Marcon, Bobby LaPlante, and Nick Manlow were ejected from the contest.
