Grimsby rolls over Niagara, 5-1

The Grimsby Peach Kings were firing on all cylinders against the Niagara Riverhawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Peach Kings emerged with a 5-1 win.

Niagara's power play was ineffective against Grimsby's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Peach Kings were led by Brennan Smith, who finished with one goal and one assist. Smith scored 19:22 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Grimsby. Matthew Jambrosich picked up the assist.

Grimsby forced the Riverhawks goalie Scott Charanduk to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Peach Kings got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Grimsby additionally got points from Garnet McComber, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Curtis Jacques, who also had one goal and one assist. Grimsby also had goals scored by Trevor McEneny and Jeromy Hopkins, who each put in one. More assists for Grimsby came via Andrew McMurtrie, who had one.

Niagara was held below its usual level of production. The Riverhawks average 3.5 goals per game. Niagara found itself short handed often, totaling 40 penalty minutes and allowing eight power plays.

The Riverhawks were led by Luke Brackett, who scored the team's only goal. Brackett scored on the power play 2:49 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Grimsby. A hooking penalty on Griffin Roubos had put Niagara on the power play. Zack Mulvale provided the assist.

Grimsby's Tyson Cowell AP stopped 14 shots out of the 15 that he faced. The Peach Kings incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Grimsby, Aidan McCreadie and Curtis Conrad were ejected from the contest. Charanduk rejected 27 shots on goal for the Riverhawks.
