Niagara blows out Simcoe, 5-2Talbot Gardens Sun, Dec 21, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Riverhawks had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Simcoe Storm. Niagara's penalty kill excelled, as the Riverhawks gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. Niagara was led by Dante Zawadzki, who racked up one goal. Zawadzki scored 17:33 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Niagara. Alex Cipriano provided the assist. The Riverhawks forced Simcoe's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 45 shots and forcing 40 saves. Nathen McKinnon made 25 stops and Kyle Poole made 15. Niagara stifled the Storm's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Riverhawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Niagara finished with 26 penalty minutes. Niagara also got points from Dawson Ethier, who also had one goal and one assist, Peter Falivena, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Brandon McLean, who also registered one goal and one assist. Niagara also got a goal from Lucas Marcon as well. More assists for Niagara came via Kyle Robertson, who had three and Luca Petriello, Bobby LaPlante, and Luke Brackett, who each chipped in one. Simcoe put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Riverhawks to score on any of their five power plays. Niagara was unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Simcoe eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. The Storm were helped by Sam McPherson, who racked up one goal. McPherson scored 51 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-2 Niagara. Drake Bailey picked up the assist. Brad DeDecker also scored for Simcoe. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Matt Small and Logan Baird, who contributed one each. The Riverhawks' Sebastian Iannoe stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Simcoe incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
