Grimsby outlasts Simcoe, 4-2Peach King Arena Fri, Dec 19, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Grimsby Peach Kings gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Simcoe Storm. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Andrew McMurtrie at 14:42 of the second period. Grimsby's penalty kill excelled, as the Peach Kings gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Grimsby was paced by McMurtrie, who finished with one goal. Simcoe was unable to stop the Peach Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Grimsby eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The Peach Kings were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances. Grimsby was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes. Grimsby also got points from Garnet McComber, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Grimsby included Brennan Smith and Michael Konkle, who each put in one. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Dillon Cipretti, Liam McCrory, Curtis Conrad, Curtis Jacques, and Malcolm Lynett, who contributed one each. The Storm were helped by Tyler Nagy, who had one goal. Nagy scored on the power play 14:33 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Simcoe. Simcoe had taken the advantage when the Peach Kings' Matthew Jambrosich got sent off for goalie interference. Dakota Culbert picked up the assist. Brad DeDecker also scored for Simcoe. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Austin Sloot, who had one and Kent Wardell, who had two. Jeremy Currie made 14 saves for Grimsby on 16 shots. Nathen McKinnon rejected 44 shots on goal for the Storm. Simcoe incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
