Dunnville squeaks by Grimsby, 5-3

The Dunnville Jr. Mudcats gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Grimsby Peach Kings.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jeff May at 16 seconds of the second period.

May had a great game for Dunnville, netting two goals.

The Jr. Mudcats' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Grimsby power plays.

Dunnville also got points from Dan Arrowsmith, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Josh Phibbs, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Josh Meeuwse also scored for Dunnville. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Chad Springer, who had three and Ryan Hannigan, Mack Steele, and Luke Rowe, who contributed one each.

Grimsby's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Peach Kings give up 2.3 goals per game.

Grimsby was helped by Michael Konkle, who finished with one goal. Konkle scored 7:19 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Dunnville. Griffin Roubos picked up the assist. Grimsby additionally got points from Brennan Smith, who also had one goal and one assist. Grimsby also got a goal from Andrew McMurtrie as well. More assists for Grimsby came via Matthew Jambrosich and Nicholas Purves, who each chipped in one.

Dunnville's Josh Rosettani stopped 18 shots out of the 21 that he faced. The Jr. Mudcats incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Jeremy Currie recorded 11 saves for the Peach Kings. Grimsby incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Peach Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Christian Gaetano was ejected from the game.
