Hagersville takes care of Grimsby early, wins 5-1

The Hagersville Hawks jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Grimsby Peach Kings, 5-1.

Grimsby was stymied by Hagersville's netminder Jonah Capriotti AP, who stopped 36 shots during the victory. Capriotti AP certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.78 entering the contest.

The Hawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 48 penalty minutes.

Hagersville forced the Peach Kings' goalies to work between the pipes, ripping 34 shots and forcing 29 saves. Jeremy Currie made eight stops and Fraser Kirk made 21. The Hawks had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on 10 chances.

Hagersville was helped by Dan Mederios, who registered one goal. Mederios scored short handed 3:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hagersville. A slashing call on John Monture put the Hawks on the penalty kill. Derek Friesen provided the assist. Hagersville also got points from Friesen, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Matt Rimac, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Hagersville included Bailey Fletcher and Cole Martin, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Jacob Bianchi, Kyle Phibbs, Mitch Green, Brayden Hill, and Jacob Solomon, who each chipped in one.

Grimsby could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Peach Kings put an average of 3.6 pucks into the net per game. Hagersville was unable to stop Grimsby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Peach Kings eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Grimsby's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Peach Kings are averaging 2.2 goals against for the season. Grimsby was held back by its power play unit, which tallied one goal on 10 chances. The Peach Kings' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Grimsby finished with 34 penalty minutes.

Griffin Roubos also scored for Grimsby. More assists for Grimsby came via Dillon Cipretti, who had one.

The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nick Sherwood was ejected from the game. Team's Andrew Brown and Curtis Conrad were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
