Niagara rips Simcoe, 8-2

The Niagara Riverhawks were firing on all cylinders against the Simcoe Storm, and when the final buzzer sounded Riverhawks emerged with an 8-2 win.

Niagara pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 30 penalty minutes.

The Riverhawks were sparked by Dylan Lazarus, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lazarus scored on the power play 5:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Niagara. Niagara had gained a power play chance when Dakota Culbert was whistled for cross checking. Alex Cipriano picked up the assist.

The Riverhawks forced Simcoe goalie Nathen McKinnon to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Niagara surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Riverhawks average 3.8 goals per contest.

Niagara additionally got points from Dante Zawadzki, who also had two goals and one assist, Cipriano, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, and Jakob Reeves, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Niagara included Patrick Norris, Landon Wilson, and Luke Brackett, who each put in one. In addition, Niagara received assists from Kyle Hardy, who had one, Peter Falivena, who had three, and Kyle Robertson, Dylan Leifso, and Franklin Franck, who each chipped in two.

The Storm kept Niagara's goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Charanduk made 34 saves on 36 shots.

Simcoe was helped by Jamie Kelly, who registered two goals. Kelly scored the first of his two goals at 1:02 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Connor Mackay provided the assist. Kelly's next tally made the score 5-2 Niagara with 16:10 left in the third period. The Storm earned a power play opportunity when Nick Manlow was put in the box for abuse of officials. Ricky Johnston picked up the assist. More assists for Simcoe came via Matt Small, who had one.

The Riverhawks registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For Niagara, Bobby LaPlante was ejected from the game. Simcoe's McKinnon stopped 30 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Storm incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
