Huge game by Green boosts Hagersville over Simcoe, 10-2

Mitch Green was all over the ice for the Hagersville Hawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Hagersville's 10-2 win over the Simcoe Storm.

Green's tallies came at 7:40 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Hagersville and 12:09 into the first to make the score 3-1 Hagersville.

Simcoe was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Hawks were able to score four times while on the power play.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:16 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Hagersville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Hagersville forced Storm's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 51 shots and forcing 41 saves. Nathen McKinnon made 32 stops and Leo Breton made nine. The Hawks bested their season scoring average. Hagersville averages 4.0 goals per game.

Hagersville additionally got points from Brett Dykstra, who also racked up one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, Jake Reichheld, who also had one goal and one assist, Nick Sherwood, who also registered one goal and one assist, Cole Martin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Derek Friesen, who also had one goal and one assist. Jacob Solomon also scored for Hagersville. More assists for Hagersville came via Dylan Spurr, Jacob Brown, and Brayden Hill, who each chipped in one and Kyle Phibbs and Matt Rimac, who contributed two each.

The Storm's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and three majors for 37 minutes in penalty time. Simcoe had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Storm's offense rang up 41 shots on the Hawks' net.

Simcoe was helped by Corson Searles, who racked up two goals. Searles scored the first of his two goals at 11:30 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. Brad DeDecker assisted on the tally. Searles' next tally made the score 4-2 Hagersville with 19:10 left in the third period. Jamie Kelly picked up the assist. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Brent Small, who had two.

Curtis Dortenzio rejected 39 shots on goal for Hagersville. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Clayton Millard was ejected from the game. The Storm registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For Simcoe, Ray Munroe, McKinnon, and Riley Wilson were ejected from the contest.
