Dundas penalty kill dominates in 5-2 defeat of NiagaraNiagara Jr. C Head Office Thu, Nov 20, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Riverhawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Dundas Blues shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2. Dundas was paced by Ray Thompson, who tallied one goal. Thompson scored short handed 2:55 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Dundas. The Blues were on a disadvantage when Dan Pelosini went off the ice for tripping. Zac Mihalis picked up the assist. Dundas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Niagara to score on any of its six power plays. The Blues' offense rang up 43 shots on the Riverhawks' net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Dundas additionally got points from Cam McConnell, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Connor King, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Dundas included Nick McMullen and Braxton Andrews, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Dundas were Ben Sim, who had two and Kevin Jaczenko, Ryan Waterhouse, and Brock Novak, who contributed one each. Niagara's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Dundas power plays. The Riverhawks kept Dundas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Novak made 33 saves on 35 shots. Niagara was led by Dylan Lazarus, who finished with one goal. Lazarus scored 19:05 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara. Zack Mulvale assisted on the tally. Lucas Marcon also scored for Niagara. In addition, Niagara received assists from Franklin Franck and Alex Cipriano, who each chipped in one. The Blues incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Scott Charanduk rejected 38 shots on goal for the Riverhawks. Niagara incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
