Port Dover falls to Simcoe after surprising comeback

The Port Dover Sailors could not hold down the Simcoe Storm, and Storm erased a two-goal deficit en route to a 6-5 win.

Simcoe never led in the game until netting the game winner. The Storm fell behind 5-3 after a goal by Port Dover's Eric Mueller at 16:19 in the second period. Simcoe knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Tyler Nagy at 4:10 in the third period. The Storm netted the game winner short handed at 6:22 in the third period on a goal by Nagy.

The Sailors were unable to stop Simcoe from sending pucks towards the net, and the Storm eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Simcoe's goal total was higher than its season average. The Storm average 3.8 goals per game. Simcoe found itself short handed often, totaling 24 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays. The Storm's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Simcoe additionally got points from Ray Munroe, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Taz Myers, who also registered one goal and one assist. Connor Mackay also scored for Simcoe. More assists for Simcoe came via Jamie Kelly, who had two, Corson Searles, who had three, and Ricky Johnston and Bryce Cadwell, who each chipped in one.

Port Dover was led by Josh Turberfield, who had one goal and one assist. Turberfield scored on the power play 17:38 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Port Dover. The Sailors earned a power play opportunity when Note Pursky was put in the box for roughing. Michael Boateng picked up the assist. Port Dover also got points from Bryson Barr, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Port Dover also had goals scored by Braden Roberts and Colton McLeod, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Dover were Jordan Lenko, Sebastian Welc, Nick DeLuca, and Justin Bell, who contributed one each.

Pursky rejected 24 shots on goal for Simcoe. The Storm registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Port Dover's Mike Caluori stopped 34 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Sailors incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
