Hagersville uses shootout to best Simcoe, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Hagersville Hawks defeated the Simcoe Storm in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Derek Friesen had two goals to lead Hagersville to victory. Friesen's tallies came at 9:41 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Hagersville and 10:37 into the third to make the score 2-2.

Simcoe's power play was ineffective against the Hawks' penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Storm were unable to stop Hagersville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 56 shots on goal.

Hagersville additionally got points from Matt Rimac, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Travis Bell, Brett Dykstra, Nick Sherwood, and Jacob Solomon, who contributed one each.

Simcoe was helped by Corson Searles, who racked up one goal. Searles scored 19:26 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Others who scored for Simcoe included Tyler Nagy and Jamie Kelly, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Ricky Johnston, who had one.

Curtis Dortenzio recorded 23 saves for Hagersville. The Hawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Nathen McKinnon made 52 saves for the Storm on 55 shots. Simcoe incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
