Friesen lifts Hagersville over Simcoe, 6-3

Derek Friesen was all over the ice for the Hagersville Hawks, as he tallied two goals in Hagersville's 6-3 win over the Simcoe Storm.

Friesen found the back of the net short handed 4:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hagersville and again while 13:06 into the third to make the score 5-3 Hagersville.

The Hawks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 36 penalty minutes.

Hagersville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in nine chances. The Hawks kept Simcoe's goalie busy throughout the game, and Note Pursky made 30 saves on 36 shots. Hagersville outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Hawks average 3.6 goals per contest.

Hagersville also got points from Mitch Green, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Cole Martin, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Hagersville also had goals scored by Brett Dykstra and John Monture, who each put in one. More assists for Hagersville came via Brayden Hill, Derek Low, and Jacob Solomon, who each chipped in one.

Hagersville was unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Simcoe eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Storm could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Simcoe was helped by Tyler Arsenault, who had one goal. Arsenault scored 6:49 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jamie Kelly provided the assist. Simcoe additionally got points from Kelly, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Corson Searles, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Connor Mackay, who had one.

The Hawks' Jonah Capriotti stopped 38 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Hagersville registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
