Grimsby beats Glanbrook 4-3 after comeback scare

The Glanbrook Rangers tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Grimsby Peach Kings would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Grimsby made the score 4-2 on a goal by Garnet McComber at 11:13 in the third period, and Glanbrook got as close as 4-3 when Chris Haigh scored 17:31 into the third period.

The Peach Kings were paced by McComber, who grabbed one goal.

Grimsby managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Peach Kings finished below its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Rangers were unable to stop Grimsby from sending pucks towards the net, and the Peach Kings eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Grimsby additionally got points from Brennan Smith, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Grimsby included Christian Gaetano and Matthew Jambrosich, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Liam McCrory, Andrew McMurtrie, and Curtis Conrad, who each chipped in one and Dillon Cipretti and Derek Rotter, who contributed two each.

Glanbrook put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Grimsby to score on any of its three power plays. The Rangers forced the Peach Kings goalie Fraser Kirk to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Glanbrook was helped by Brad Parish, who tallied one goal. Parish scored 6:18 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Grimsby. Jeff May picked up the assist. Glanbrook also got a goal from Aaron Smith as well. In addition, Glanbrook received assists from Cole Anderson, who had one and Anthony Whitwell, who had two.

Kirk recorded 29 saves for Grimsby. The Rangers' Matthew Venturelli stopped 33 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Glanbrook incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
