Simcoe's comeback falls short, Port Dover wins 7-5Talbot Gardens Sun, Oct 26, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The Simcoe Storm almost clawed their way back from a three-goal deficit, but the Port Dover Sailors managed to pull out a 7-5 win in the end. Port Dover led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Sailors' Josh Turberfield scored on the power play at 5:25 in the second period to put Port Dover up 5-2. With three goals and two assists between them, Eric Mueller and Colin Montour teamed up to power the Sailors' offense. Mueller racked up two goals and Montour also added one goal and two assists. Port Dover forced Simcoe's goaltenders to work in net, launching 59 shots and forcing 52 saves. Note Pursky made zero stops and Leo Breton made 52. The Sailors excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Port Dover found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Sailors average 3.2 goals per game. Port Dover also got points from Brandon Dunrett, who also registered one goal and one assist and Montour, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Port Dover included Travis Walker and Bryson Barr, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Port Dover were Jordan Lenko, who had two and Tyson Myke, Michael Almas, Josh Miedema, Braden Roberts, and Colin Streutker, who contributed one each. Port Dover was unable to stop the Storm from sending pucks towards the net, and Simcoe eventually piled up 54 shots on goal. The Storm were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 26 penalty minutes. Simcoe was helped by Tyler Arsenault, who had two goals. Arsenault scored the first of his two goals at 6:19 into the second period to make the score 5-3 Port Dover. Corson Searles provided the assist. Arsenault's next tally made the score 5-5 with 18:53 left in the third period. Bryce Cadwell picked up the assist. Simcoe additionally got points from Jamie Kelly, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Searles, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Simcoe also got a goal from Jordan Tippetts as well. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Brad Vervacke, Dakota Culbert, and Tyler Nagy, who each chipped in one. Justin McSpadden made 49 saves for the Sailors on 54 shots. Port Dover incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
