Niagara blows out Hagersville, 6-1

The Niagara Riverhawks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Hagersville Hawks.

Niagara's Scott Charanduk was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. Charanduk managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 4.01 prior to the game.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:57 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Riverhawks' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Niagara surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Riverhawks kept Hagersville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Curtis Dortenzio made 28 saves on 34 shots. Niagara outdid its season average for goals scored. The Riverhawks have scored at the pace of 3.6 goals per game during the current campaign. Niagara was effective with a man advantage, and put in three goals while on the power play.

The Riverhawks were led by Kyle Robertson, who registered two goals and one assist. Robertson scored the first of his two goals at 14:22 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Niagara. Bobby LaPlante picked up the assist. Robertson's next tally made the score 4-0 Niagara with 16:10 left in the third period. Niagara had gained a power play chance when Jake Reichheld was whistled for slashing. Alex Cipriano provided the assist. Niagara also got points from Cipriano, who also had one goal and one assist and Peter Falivena, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Niagara also had goals scored by Franklin Franck and Brandon McLean, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Niagara were Drew Trendle, who had two.

The Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Hagersville averages 3.4 goals per game. The Hawks' offense rang up 34 shots on the Riverhawks' net.

Hagersville also got a goal from Dan Mederios as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Kyle Phibbs and Mitch Green, who each chipped in one.

For Niagara, Benjamin Morrish was ejected from the game. Hagersville totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 1-for-10 on the power play. The Hawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Travis Bell was ejected from the game.
