Hagersville vanquishes Grimsby in shootout, 2-1 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Hagersville Hawks defeated the Grimsby Peach Kings in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams. Grimsby got a shootout goal from Brennan Smith. In addition to the clincher, Hagersville got a shootout goal from Mitch Green.

The Hawks overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Hagersville fell behind 1-0 after a power play goal by the Peach Kings' Curtis Conrad at 3:47 in the third period. The Hawks tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Green at 16:09 in the third period.

Hagersville was led by goalie Curtis Dortenzio, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Dortenzio will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.41.

The Hawks kept Grimsby's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jeremy Currie made 38 saves on 40 shots.

In addition, Hagersville received assists from Derek Low and Cole Martin, who contributed one each.

The Peach Kings excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances.

More assists for Grimsby came via Nicholas Purves and Smith, who each chipped in one.

Hagersville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Grimsby incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For the Peach Kings, Dillon Cipretti was ejected from the game.
