Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Grimsby Peach Kings defeated the Dundas Blues in a shootout 2-1 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Dundas' shootout goal was scored by Nick McMullen. Grimsby's other shootout goal was scored by Curtis Conrad.The Peach Kings came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. Grimsby trailed 1-0 after a power play goal by the Blues' Ryan Waterhouse at 16:28 in the first period. The Peach Kings knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Christian Gaetano at 10:06 in the third period. Grimsby's Fraser Kirk was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Kirk certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.09 entering the contest. The Peach Kings forced Dundas goalie Brock Novak to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots. Grimsby's power play unit failed to produce, and was held to zero goals on 10 chances. The Blues stifled the Peach Kings' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Dundas could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Blues average 5.0 goals per game. Dundas' offense rang up 32 shots on Grimsby's net. The Blues could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. In addition, Dundas received assists from Ray Thompson and Thomas Dowling, who each chipped in one. The Peach Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Dundas' Novak stopped 43 shots out of the 44 that he faced. The Blues registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
