Niagara rolls over Simcoe, 7-3

The Niagara Riverhawks had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-3 win over the Simcoe Storm.

Niagara pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 18 penalty minutes.

The Riverhawks were paced by Kyle Hardy, who racked up one goal. Hardy scored 11:53 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Niagara. Landon Wilson picked up the assist.

Niagara excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Riverhawks kept Simcoe's goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan Wolfe made 30 saves on 37 shots. Niagara surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Riverhawks have scored at the pace of 3.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Niagara's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Niagara also got points from Franklin Franck, who also registered one goal and one assist and Zack Mulvale, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Niagara also had goals scored by Alex Cipriano, who had two and Marcon Lucas and Jakob Reeves, who scored one goal each. In addition, Niagara received assists from Kyle Robertson, who had two and Dante Zawadzki, Dylan Leifso, Patrick Norris, Dylan Lazarus, and Drew Trendle, who contributed one each.

The Storm stifled the Riverhawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Simcoe could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 32 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Storm were led by Tyler Arsenault, who grabbed two goals. Arsenault scored the first of his two goals at 9:59 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Niagara. Corson Searles provided the assist. Arsenault's next tally made the score 3-2 Niagara with 9:35 left in the second period. Searles picked up the assist. Riley Wilson also scored for Simcoe. More assists for Simcoe came via Ray Munroe, who had one.

Niagara's Kyle Poole stopped 22 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Riverhawks registered zero goals on nine power play opportunities.
