Hagersville survives Simcoe comeback, wins 7-5

The Simcoe Storm tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Hagersville Hawks held on for a 7-5 victory.

Hagersville took a 7-4 lead during the third period, only to have Simcoe storm back on a Tyler Arsenault goal 18:39 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Hawks got the win thanks to a great game by Derek Friesen, who had two goals and one assist. Friesen scored the first of his two goals at 4:21 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Simcoe. Cole Martin assisted on the tally. Friesen's next tally made the score 6-4 Hagersville with 15:02 left in the third period. Martin picked up the assist.

Hagersville stifled the Storm's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Simcoe was unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Hagersville eventually piled up 47 shots on goal. The Hawks' goal total was higher than their season average. Hagersville averages 4.0 goals per game.

Hagersville also got points from Mitch Green, who also had two goals and one assist, Martin, who also registered one goal and three assists to lead the team in points, and #$self.jersey, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Bailey Fletcher also scored for Hagersville. More assists for Hagersville came via Travis Bell, Aaron Panter, Clayton Millard, Nick Sherwood, and Brayden Hill, who contributed one each.

The Storm's offense rang up 32 shots on the Hawks' net.

Simcoe additionally got points from Jamie Kelly, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Simcoe included Nick Gratton and Corson Searles, who scored one goal each. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Dakota Culbert, Tyler Nagy, and Jordan Tippetts, who each chipped in one.

Curtis Dortenzio rejected 27 shots on goal for Hagersville. The Hawks totaled 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors and two majors and went 1-for-2 on the power play. For Hagersville, Dylan Spurr, Fletcher, and Jake Reichheld were ejected from the contest. Evan Wolfe recorded 40 saves for Simcoe. The Storm totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 0-for-4 on the power play. Team's Jackob Miller and Riley Wilson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
