Niagara squeaks by Port Dover, 4-3Port Dover Sun, Sep 28, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Niagara Riverhawks and the Port Dover Sailors was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Niagara emerged with a 4-3 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Dante Zawadzki secured the win for the Riverhawks with a goal in the third period. Franklin Franck had two goals to lead Niagara to victory. Franck scored at 19:03 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara and again while 6:04 into the third to make the score 3-3. The Riverhawks' penalty kill excelled, as Niagara gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 20:00 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Riverhawks stifled Port Dover's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Niagara additionally got points from Peter Falivena, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Niagara came via Luca Petriello, who had two and Lucas Marcon, Dylan Leifso, Benjamin Morrish, Drew Trendle, and Jakob Reeves, who each chipped in one. The Sailors' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Niagara power plays. Port Dover forced Niagara goalie Kyle Poole to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Sailors were helped by Bradon Roberts, who registered one goal. Roberts scored seven seconds into the third period to make the score 2-2. Josh Turberfield picked up the assist. Port Dover also got points from Travis Walker, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Eric Mueller also scored for Port Dover. Other players who recorded assists for Port Dover were Colin Montour, Nick Chiarot, Colin Streutker, and Justin Bell, who contributed one each. Poole recorded 33 saves for the Riverhawks. Niagara ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. For the Riverhawks, Falivena was ejected from the game. Port Dover's Justin McSpadden stopped 12 shots out of the 16 that he faced. The Sailors ended with 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors. For Port Dover, Jordan Lenko and Roberts were ejected from the contest.
