Dortenzio stymies Dunnville, Hagersville wins 3-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Curtis Dortenzio helped the Hagersville Hawks defeat the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats, 3-1.

Hagersville's penalty kill excelled, as the Hawks gave up zero goals despite allowing 10 power plays.

Hagersville was led by Derek Friesen, who registered one goal. Friesen scored 16:53 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Hagersville. Brett Dykstra assisted on the tally.

The Hawks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 14 minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Hagersville surpassed its season average of 35.0 penalty minutes per game. The Hawks stifled Dunnville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Jr. Mudcats were unable to stop Hagersville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Hagersville additionally got points from Mitch Green, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Hagersville also got a goal from Dan Mederios as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Kyle Phibbs, Jonathan Pace, Cole Martin, and Jacob Solomon, who each chipped in one.

Dunnville forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 25.0 minutes per game the Jr. Mudcats had been spending in the box. Dunnville's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Hagersville power plays. The Jr. Mudcats did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Dunnville averages 4.0 goals per game. The Jr. Mudcats' offense rang up 35 shots on Hagersville's net.

Dunnville was led by Jeff May, who scored the team's only goal. May scored 10:56 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. Matt Dolan picked up the assist.

The Hawks' Dortenzio stopped 34 shots out of the 35 that he faced. For Hagersville, Travis Bell and Clayton Millard were ejected from the contest. Josh Rosettani rejected 28 shots on goal for the Jr. Mudcats. Dunnville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mark Topp was ejected from the game.
