Grimsby outlasts Dundas, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Grimsby Peach Kings escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Dundas Blues.

Grimsby gained the winning advantage on a goal by Joshua Kozielski 14:48 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Peach Kings were sparked by Kozielski, who registered one goal and one assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:07 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Grimsby forced Dundas goalie Brock Novak to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Peach Kings was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on 11 chances with a man advantage.

Grimsby also had goals scored by Andrew McMurtrie and Matthew Paonessa, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Griffin Roubos, who had one and Jeromy Hopkins, who had two.

The Blues stifled Grimsby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Dundas was helped by Braxton Andrews, who tallied one goal. Andrews scored on the power play 9:37 into the third period to make the score 2-2. The Blues had gotten the advantage when the Peach Kings' Andrew Brown was sent off for roughing after whistle. Matt Johnson picked up the assist. Ryan Overton also scored for Dundas. In addition, Dundas received assists from Phoenix Schuler, Nick McMullen, and Matt Scanlin, who contributed one each.

Jeremy Currie rejected 25 shots on goal for Grimsby. The Peach Kings ended with 23 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major. Team's Derek Rotter and McMurtrie were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Dundas' Novak stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Blues totaled 65 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. For Dundas, Jake Bain, Mitch Moriarity, and Connor King were ejected from the contest.
