Dunnville rides Head to victory over Niagara, 5-1

A stellar performance between the pipes by Brennan Head helped the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats defeat the Niagara Riverhawks, 5-1.

Dunnville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 24 penalty minutes.

The Jr. Mudcats were paced by Mack Steele, who tallied one goal and one assist. Steele scored 8:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dunnville. Ryan Hannigan assisted on the tally.

Dunnville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in 11 chances. The Jr. Mudcats kept Niagara's goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Charanduk made 39 saves on 44 shots. Dunnville's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Dunnville also got points from Chad Springer, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Dunnville included Mark Topp, Steven Czepek, and Dan Arrowsmith, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dunnville received assists from Josh Meeuwse, Andy Metzler, Brandon Dear, Jeff May, and Luke Rowe, who each chipped in one.

The Riverhawks could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Niagara puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The Riverhawks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 22 penalty minutes for zero opposing power plays.

Niagara was led by Luke Brackett, who scored the team's only goal. Brackett scored 6:27 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dylan Leifso picked up the assist.

Head recorded 27 saves for the Jr. Mudcats. For Dunnville, Davis Hart was ejected from the game. For the Riverhawks, Lucas Marcon, Dylan Lazarus, and Nick Manlow were ejected from the contest.
