Omaha AAA 18U beats California Titans 18U 4-2 after comeback scare

Omaha AAA 18U survived a determined comeback attempt by California Titans 18U on the way to a 4-2 win.

Omaha AAA 18U made the score 4-1 on a goal by Shayne Monahan at 5:06 in the third period, and California Titans 18U got as close as 4-2 when Evan Somoza scored 10:50 into the third period.

Omaha AAA 18U's penalty kill excelled, as Omaha AAA 18U gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

Omaha AAA 18U's offense rang up 45 shots on California Titans 18U's net. Team could not crack California Titans 18U's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 13 opportunities to play with the man advantage. Omaha AAA 18U's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. Omaha AAA 18U's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Omaha AAA 18U finished with 22 penalty minutes.

Omaha AAA 18U was helped by Jake Levin, who registered one goal. Levin scored on the power play 13:42 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Omaha AAA 18U. Omaha AAA 18U had taken the advantage when California Titans 18U's Jack Reeves got sent off for interference. Nico Blachman picked up the assist. Others who scored for Omaha AAA 18U included Zach Kramer and Tycho Falk, who scored one goal each. In addition, Omaha AAA 18U received assists from Jarrett Mari, who had two and Albert Tsygurov, Matt Christian, and Phil Heisse, who each chipped in one.

California Titans 18U forced Omaha AAA 18U goalie Darion Hanson to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. California Titans 18U was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 60 penalty minutes.

California Titans 18U also got a goal from Nathan Margeson as well. Other players who recorded assists for California Titans 18U were Eric Weber, Grant Minakawa, Kane Toriumi, and Frank Horowitz, who contributed one each.

Darion Hanson made 32 saves for Omaha AAA 18U on 34 shots. California Titans 18U's Nicholas Nast stopped 41 shots out of the 45 that he faced.
