Esmark Stars 18U vanquishes St. Louis Selects 18U in shootout, 5-4

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Esmark Stars 18U defeated St. Louis Selects 18U in a shootout 5-4.

The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. St. Louis Selects 18U's shootout goal was scored by Charlie Corbett. In addition to the clincher, Esmark Stars 18U got a shootout goal from Adam Alavi.

Esmark Stars 18U saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Esmark Stars 18U made the score 4-1 on a goal by Ethan Homitz at 12:34 in the second period. St. Louis Selects 18U evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Joey Rosa at 9:07 in the third period.

Esmark Stars 18U forced St. Louis Selects 18U goalie David Farley to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Esmark Stars 18U got its opportunities on the power play, but did not convert any of its nine chances.

Esmark Stars 18U was helped by Alavi, who had one goal. Alavi scored 5:17 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Esmark Stars 18U. Homitz provided the assist. Esmark Stars 18U also got points from Homitz, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and David Polinski, who also registered one goal and one assist. Esmark Stars 18U also got a goal from Sam Barnes as well. Other players who recorded assists for Esmark Stars 18U were Brendon Zack, who had two and Carter Ekberg, Andrew Koziara, and Brian Dee, who each chipped in one.

St. Louis Selects 18U stifled Esmark Stars 18U's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. St. Louis Selects 18U could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

St. Louis Selects 18U additionally got points from Shane Quinn, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Jack Healy also scored for St. Louis Selects 18U. In addition, St. Louis Selects 18U received assists from Corbett, who had two and Jordan Bratton, John Moeller, Brycon Johnson, and Austin Junger, who contributed one each.

Joseph Recktenwald recorded 21 saves for Esmark Stars 18U. Esmark Stars 18U incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. St. Louis Selects 18U's Farley stopped 37 shots out of the 41 that he faced. St. Louis Selects 18U registered one goal on four power play opportunities.
