Lansing Capitals 18U uses shootout to best Omaha AAA 18U, 3-2

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Lansing Capitals 18U defeated Omaha AAA 18U in a shootout 3-2.

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams.

Lansing Capitals 18U came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Lansing Capitals 18U fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Omaha AAA 18U's Shayne Monahan at 8:20 in the first period. Lansing Capitals 18U knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Wyatt Beard at 2:17 in the third period.

Lansing Capitals 18U's offense rang up 35 shots on Omaha AAA 18U's net. Team could not crack Omaha AAA 18U's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having 10 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Lansing Capitals 18U was helped by Michael Rounds, who tallied one goal. Rounds scored on the power play 11:16 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Omaha AAA 18U. A tripping penalty on TJ Polglaze had put Lansing Capitals 18U on the power play. Josh Kirsch provided the assist. More assists for Lansing Capitals 18U came via Max Trucks, Kieran Durgan, and Ethan Stutzman, who each chipped in one.

Omaha AAA 18U's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. Omaha AAA 18U had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game.

In addition, Omaha AAA 18U received assists from Jarrett Mari and Ryan Kheir, who contributed one each.

Andrew Kormos made 19 saves for Lansing Capitals 18U on 21 shots. Lansing Capitals 18U incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Lucas Van Dyke recorded 32 saves for Omaha AAA 18U. Omaha AAA 18U registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. Omaha AAA 18U ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sean Stefaniak was ejected from the game.
