Team Illinois 18U uses shootout to best Little Caesars 18U, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Team Illinois 18U defeated Little Caesars 18U in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout featured 16 attempts between both teams. Little Caesars 18U got shootout goals from Jet Bell and Jiri Hozak. Team Illinois 18U's other shootout goals were scored by Tommy Trieber and Frank Turk.

Sam Craggs was all over the ice for Team Illinois 18U, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Craggs scored the first of his two goals at 2:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Team Illinois 18U. Shane Claffey assisted on the tally. Craggs' next tally made the score 2-0 Team Illinois 18U with 17:40 left in the second period. Team Illinois 18U had gained a power play chance when Matthew Hudie was whistled for tripping. Joe Nolan picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:25 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Team Illinois 18U forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Team Illinois 18U surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game.

Team Illinois 18U also got a goal from Zachary Mitchell as well. In addition, Team Illinois 18U received assists from Adam Ostrowski, who had one.

Little Caesars 18U's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Little Caesars 18U had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. Little Caesars 18U had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just one goal on 10 chances.

Little Caesars 18U was helped by Danil Sokolka, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Sokolka scored 4:10 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Hozak assisted on the tally. Little Caesars 18U also got points from Hozak, who also registered one goal and one assist. Jared Domin also scored for Little Caesars 18U. More assists for Little Caesars 18U came via Braden Brown, Mike Winn, and Evan Ketner, who contributed one each.

Team Illinois 18U registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Team Illinois 18U ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Luke Picek was ejected from the game. For Little Caesars 18U, Mario Damico was ejected from the game.
