Ryback's big game bests La Crosse in 6-2 Alexandria win

Aaron Ryback was all over the ice for the Alexandria Blizzard, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Alexandria's 6-2 win over the La Crosse Freeze.

Ryback scored at 3:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alexandria and again while 16:59 into the first to make the score 3-0 Alexandria.

The Blizzard's penalty kill excelled, as Alexandria gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 1:11 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Blizzard forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and two majors for 42 minutes in penalty time. Alexandria surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blizzard stifled La Crosse's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Alexandria also had goals scored by Tom Schmidt, Bo Gronseth, Austin Kilian, and Nate Mettenburg, who each put in one. In addition, Alexandria received assists from Tyler Sworsky, who had two and Tom Monteiro, David Becker, and AJ Gullickson, who each chipped in one.

The Freeze excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. La Crosse forced Alexandria goalie Tanner Elmore to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

The Freeze were helped by Hunter Smith, who racked up one goal. Smith scored 11:38 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Alexandria. Travis Hall assisted on the tally. Taylor Trapp also scored for La Crosse. More assists for La Crosse came via Hunter Breza, Ben Henderson, and Tyler Gorniak, who contributed one each.

Elmore recorded 36 saves for the Blizzard. Alexandria ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kilian was ejected from the game. Andrew Wagner took the loss and made four saves before being replaced by Cameron Scheuren who made 15 saves. La Crosse ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Freeze, Luke Bing was ejected from the game.
