Twin City vanquishes Minnesota in shootout, 8-7 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Twin City Steel defeated the Minnesota Flying Aces in a shootout 8-7 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Minnesota got a shootout goal from Jesse Brown. Twin City also got a shootout goal from Cody Thurman.

The Steel saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Twin City made the score 5-2 on a goal by James Hale at 7:10 in the second period. The Flying Aces evened things up at 7-7 on a goal by Brown at 19:37 in the third period.

The Steel got the win on the strength of a great game by Jake McGlocklin, who had one goal and three assists. McGlocklin scored 16:03 into the third period to make the score 6-5 Twin City. Joe Costello assisted on the tally.

Twin City forced Minnesota goalie Matt Douglas to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Steel surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Twin City averages 3.4 goals per game.

Twin City additionally got points from Kyle Wagner, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jared Erickson, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. More assists for Twin City came via Tom Reilly, who had two, Bennett Witta, who had three, and Jake McAfee and Nicholas Campbell, who contributed one each.

The Steel were unable to stop the Flying Aces from sending pucks towards the net, and Minnesota eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. The Flying Aces' goal total was higher than their season average. Minnesota has scored at the pace of 2.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

The Flying Aces were led by Bradee Thompson, who registered two goals and three assists. Thompson scored the first of his two goals at 4:31 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Twin City. Ryan Conybear picked up the assist. Thompson's next tally made the score 5-4 Twin City with 12:32 left in the third period. Minnesota had gained a power play chance when Aharon Lara was whistled for too many men. Matt Heim provided the assist. Minnesota also got points from Isak Larson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Blake Neumann also scored for Minnesota. In addition, Minnesota received assists from Zach Johnston, who had two and Lucas Mutschelknaus, Tyler Gallagher, Tyler Arenz, and Jace Cseter, who each chipped in one.

Robbie Goor recorded 33 saves for Twin City. The Steel incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The Flying Aces' Douglas stopped 28 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Minnesota incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
