Couture's big game bests Gillette in 5-2 Bozeman win

Kegan Couture had one goal and two assists to lead the Bozeman Icedogs to a 5-2 victory over the Gillette Wild.

Couture got on the board by slotting home a short handed goal 13:29 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Bozeman. Bozeman was on a disadvantage when John Dixon went off the ice for spearing. Jake Nicks provided the assist. Couture dished an assist on Devin Panzeca's goal that made the score 2-1 Bozeman at 6:39 into the second period. He added another helper on Gunnar Mogck's goal that made the score 4-2 Bozeman at 12:00 into the third period.

The Icedogs stifled Gillette's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Bozeman kept the Wild's goalie busy throughout the game, and Alex Feese made 26 saves on 31 shots. The Icedogs' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Bozeman averages 2.5 goals per contest.

Bozeman also got a goal from Cole Blatter as well. Other players who recorded assists for Bozeman were Ryan Erickson, who had two and Steven Nisbet and Kevin Steffey, who contributed one each.

Gillette forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Wild surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. Gillette forced the Icedogs' goaltenders to work in net, getting 45 shots and forcing 43 saves. Steven Frank made 37 stops and Denijs Romanovskis made six. The Wild's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. Gillette gives up 2.2 goals per game.

The Wild were helped by Brandon Beard, who registered one goal. Beard scored 1:49 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Bozeman. Bryce Mitzel assisted on the tally. TJ McMinn also scored for Gillette. In addition, Gillette received assists from Ryan Bochert, who had one.

Bozeman incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Gillette registered zero goals on five power play opportunities.
