Bozeman beats Helena 4-2 after comeback scare

The Helena Bighorns tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Bozeman Icedogs held on for a 4-2 victory.

Bozeman took a 4-1 lead during the third period, only to have Helena storm back on a Brandt Miller goal 18:44 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Icedogs got the win with help from a great game by Steven Nisbet, who had two goals and one assist. Nisbet scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:16 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Bozeman earned a power play opportunity when Cody Vanthournout was put in the box for head contact. Kegan Couture picked up the assist. Nisbet's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Bozeman with 14:47 left in the second period. The Icedogs had gotten the advantage when the Bighorns' Jay Forbes was sent off for cross checking. Gunnar Mogck provided the assist.

Bozeman stifled Helena's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Bozeman also got points from Mogck, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. AJ Odell also scored for Bozeman. More assists for Bozeman came via Jake Nicks, John Dixon, and Cole Blatter, who contributed one each.

The Bighorns were held below their usual level of production. Helena puts an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. The Bighorns forced the Icedogs goalie Denijs Romanovskis to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

In addition, Helena received assists from Daniel Liberko, Elliot Hopkins, and Gavin Lubin, who each chipped in one.

Bozeman's Romanovskis stopped 47 shots out of the 49 that he faced. The Icedogs incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Adam Ranck rejected 15 shots on goal for Helena. The Bighorns incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
