Peoria's McPherson deadly on offense in 3-1 win against Minnesota

The Peoria Mustangs relied on the scoring touch of Mitchell McPherson, who netted two goals, to beat the Minnesota Flying Aces, 3-1.

McPherson's tallies came at 10:08 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Peoria and 18:43 into the third to make the score 3-1 Peoria.

Peoria could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game.

Clayton Layne also scored for Peoria. Other players who recorded assists for Peoria were Joe Power Wayvon and Austin Wisely, who each chipped in one and Nick Conner and Thomas Kolaz, who contributed two each.

Minnesota excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

The Flying Aces were led by Jesse Brown, who scored the team's only goal. Brown scored on the power play 2:53 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Minnesota had gotten the advantage when the Mustangs' McPherson was sent off for tripping. Jace Cseter picked up the assist.

Peoria's Ross Lipic stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Matt Douglas rejected 21 shots on goal for the Flying Aces. Minnesota incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
