The Topeka Capitals could not stop the Nashville Jr. Predators' Nick Mammel, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-4 win.

Mammel notched his first tally 17:18 into the second period. He then added goals at 10:53 into the third and at 15:36 into the third.

Nashville forced Topeka goalie Brett Malkmus to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. The Jr. Predators' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the Capitals' power play unit. Nashville's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Jr. Predators give up 1.7 goal per game.

Others who scored for Nashville included Ben Falk and Jon Severson, who each put in one. In addition, Nashville received assists from Nicholas Redmon, who had two, Spencer Marchand, who had three, and Nickolas Tandeski, Topi Samuli Aheristo, and Zach Greenwood, who each chipped in one.

Topeka kept Nashville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan Cline made 28 saves on 32 shots.

The Capitals were helped by Tre Kautzman, who tallied two goals. Kautzman scored the first of his two goals at 19:33 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Trey Opack provided the assist. Kautzman's next tally made the score 3-3 with 8:23 left in the third period. Topeka earned a power play opportunity when Keegan Haines was put in the box for slashing. Alex Sauer picked up the assist. Topeka additionally got points from Hank Roers, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Topeka also got a goal from Mike Pedersen as well. More assists for Topeka came via Andrew Cooley, Kyle Rimbach, Alex Johanson, and Richard Yusa, who contributed one each.

The Jr. Predators incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Brett Malkmus made 26 saves for the Capitals on 31 shots. Topeka incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
