Cleveland survives Cincinnati comeback, wins 5-3

The Cincinnati Swords tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks held on for a 5-3 victory.

A goal by Zack Mlady put Cleveland up 5-2 in the third period, but Cincinnati pulled to within two on Blake Hinds's tally 15:19 into the third period.

Patrick Briggs was all over the ice for the Jr. Lumberjacks, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Briggs scored on the power play 5:07 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cleveland had gotten the advantage when the Swords' Jeff Balow was sent off for slashing. Tyler Houmard assisted on the tally.

The Jr. Lumberjacks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Cleveland averages 2.5 goals per contest.

Cleveland also had goals scored by Aaron Schmitt and John Barlow, who scored one goal each. More assists for Cleveland came via Mitch Renstrom, who had two and Avery Huibregtse, Tyler Dalton, and Trey Rossbach, who contributed one each.

Cincinnati was led by Oliver Ahlberg, who finished with two goals and one assist. Ahlberg scored the first of his two goals at 3:43 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cincinnati. Hunter Schneider picked up the assist. Ahlberg's next tally made the score 2-1 Cincinnati with 6:27 left in the first period. Schneider provided the assist. Cincinnati also got points from Hinds, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Cincinnati were Brenden Williams and Sid Quincy, who each chipped in one.

Alec Rounds made 17 saves for the Jr. Lumberjacks on 20 shots. Cleveland incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. James Schroeder recorded 14 saves for the Swords. Cincinnati incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
