Huge game by Viberg boosts Wisconsin over Peoria, 5-1

The Wisconsin Whalers' Nathan Viberg had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 5-1 win over the Peoria Mustangs.

Viberg got on the board by slotting home a goal 7:16 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wisconsin. Kaleb Morley assisted on the tally. Viberg dished an assist on Peter Henderson's goal that made the score 3-1 Wisconsin at 9:20 into the second period. He added another helper on Henderson's goal that made the score 5-1 Wisconsin at 14:57 into the third period.

Peoria was stymied by Wisconsin's netminder Evan Moyse, who stopped 41 shots during the victory. Moyse certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.54 entering the contest.

The Whalers' penalty kill excelled, as Wisconsin gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

The Whalers stifled the Mustangs' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wisconsin could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wisconsin also got points from Henderson, who also registered three goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Ryan Martin also scored for Wisconsin. In addition, Wisconsin received assists from Alex Anderson, who had two and Caleb Voster, Adam Schoenfeld, Austin Lewis, and Isaac Hale, who contributed one each.

Peoria's offense operated below its season average. The Mustangs average 3.8 goals per game. The Whalers were unable to stop Peoria from sending pucks towards the net, and the Mustangs eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

Peoria was led by Jason Hoehn, who scored the team's only goal. Hoehn scored 18:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Peoria. Chance Homerin picked up the assist.

Wisconsin registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Nicholas Piech made 20 saves for the Mustangs on 25 shots. Peoria incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
