Granite City squeaks by Twin City, 3-2

The Granite City Lumberjacks and the Twin City Steel were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Granite City made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Travis Kothenbeutel's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Kothenbeutel had two goals to lead the Lumberjacks to victory.

Twin City's power play was ineffective against Granite City's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Lumberjacks stifled the Steel's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Granite City also got a goal from Michael Orke as well. More assists for Granite City came via Tanner Skaja, who had two and Brady Bernhardson, Kevin Finley, David Kenney, and Dallas Marvin, who each chipped in one.

Twin City excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances.

The Steel were led by Lance Carney, who tallied one goal and one assist. Carney scored 11:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Granite City. Mikko Aho provided the assist. Tom Reilly also scored for Twin City. In addition, Twin City received assists from Jake McAfee and Connor Boscaccy, who contributed one each.

Granite City's Jesse Garcia stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Lumberjacks incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Parker Butler rejected 26 shots on goal for Twin City. The Steel incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
