Wisconsin completes comeback, beats Peoria, 6-5Hartmeyer Arena Sat, Feb 14, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Undaunted by a two-goal deficit, the Wisconsin Whalers battled back to claim a 6-5 victory over the Peoria Mustangs. Wisconsin let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a two hole to pick up the win. The Whalers took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by Ryan Martin at 3:56 in the first period. Wisconsin found itself down 4-2 after Peoria's Marshall Gevers put the puck home at 10:25 in the second period. After knotting things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Alex Anderson at 13:21 in the third, the Whalers got the game-winner from Nathan Viberg at 15:02 in the third period. Wisconsin got the win behind a great game by Viberg, who had two goals and one assist. Viberg scored the first of his two goals at 5:25 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Adam Alcott provided the assist. Viberg's next tally made the score 6-5 Wisconsin with 4:58 left in the third period. Connor Morgan assisted on the tally. The Whalers managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Wisconsin ended up below its season average of 15.0 penalty minutes per game. The Mustangs were unable to stop the Whalers from sending pucks towards the net, and Wisconsin eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Wisconsin also got points from Martin, who also registered one goal and one assist, Peter Henderson, who also had one goal and two assists, and Alcott, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Wisconsin were Yves Leemann and Austin Lewis, who each chipped in one and Thomas Hanson and Kaleb Morley, who contributed two each. Peoria's offense rang up 38 shots on the Whalers' net. The Mustangs were helped by Andrej Buchko, who finished with one goal and one assist. Buchko scored 1:25 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Mark Candotti picked up the assist. Peoria additionally got points from Chance Homerin, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Peoria also had goals scored by Nathan Scofield and Mitchell McPherson, who each put in one. In addition, Peoria received assists from Austin Wisely, who had two and Kai Barber, Jason Hoehn, and Thomas Kolaz, who each chipped in one. Evan Moyse made 33 saves for Wisconsin on 38 shots. The Whalers registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Ross Lipic rejected 26 shots on goal for Peoria. The Mustangs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
