Southern Tier rolls over Cincinnati, 9-3

The Cincinnati Swords had trouble finding ways to stop the Southern Tier Xpress, which beat Swords, 9-3.

Tobias Gabrielsen had one goal and three assists to lead Southern Tier. Gabrielsen scored on the power play 8:50 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Xpress had taken the advantage when Cincinnati's Brenden Williams got sent off for slashing. Luke Sunde provided the assist.

Southern Tier forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. The Xpress surpassed its season average of 28.0 penalty minutes per game. Southern Tier forced the Swords' netminders to work all game long, totaling 32 shots and forcing 23 saves. James Schroeder made 13 stops and Brandon Kruger made 10. The Xpress' goal total was higher than their season average. Southern Tier averages 4.0 goals per game. The Xpress took advantage of Cincinnati's penalties, tallying three goals off of four power play opportunities. Southern Tier's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Southern Tier also got points from Justin Andriaccio, who also registered one goal and two assists, Alec Hooper, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Brandon Desrosiers, who also registered one goal and one assist, Sunde, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Elijah Williams, who also had one goal and one assist, and Luke Grossman, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Southern Tier included Tim Weisgerber and Isaiah Crawford, who each put in one. In addition, Southern Tier received assists from Mark Sunde, who had two and Aleksandr Koshelev and Niko Greco, who contributed one each.

The Swords were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game Cincinnati had been spending in the box.

The Swords were helped by Adam Goudelock, who registered one goal. Goudelock scored on the power play 3:31 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cincinnati. Cincinnati had gained a power play chance when Brian Grant was whistled for interference. Oliver Ahlberg picked up the assist. Hunter Schneider also scored for Cincinnati. Other players who recorded assists for Cincinnati were Gennadi Zabeline and Alex Olson, who each chipped in one.

Brendan Shuck rejected 18 shots on goal for the Xpress. The Swords registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For Cincinnati, Jessie Fracassi and Joey Sorensen were ejected from the contest.
