Helena vanquishes Great Falls in shootout, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Helena Bighorns defeated the Great Falls Americans in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The shootout lasted for 18 attempts between the teams. Great Falls' shootout goal was scored by Joshua Larson. Helena also got a shootout goal from Johnny Bonta.

The Bighorns overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Helena fell behind 2-0 after a power play goal by the Americans' Lucas Lomax at 6:20 in the first period. The Bighorns tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Blake Babineau at 13:27 in the third period.

Babineau was all over the ice for Helena, as he tallied two goals in the win.

The Bighorns forced Great Falls goalie Lauren Massie to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Other players who recorded assists for Helena were Kendall Bolen-Porter and Rory Bock, who each chipped in one.

The Americans' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Helena power plays. Helena was unable to stop Great Falls from sending pucks towards the net, and the Americans eventually piled up 48 shots on goal.

Great Falls was helped by Cody Page, who registered one goal and one assist. Page scored 44 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Great Falls. Larson picked up the assist. Great Falls additionally got points from Lomax, who also grabbed one goal and one assist.

Grant Martens rejected 46 shots on goal for the Bighorns. Helena incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Americans' Massie stopped 37 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Great Falls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
