Early goals doom Minnesota, falls to Alexandria, 11-4

The Alexandria Blizzard jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Minnesota Flying Aces, 11-4.

Bo Gronseth had one goal and four assists to lead Alexandria. Gronseth scored 10:55 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Alexandria. Tommy Hall picked up the assist.

The Blizzard's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and two majors for 44 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Alexandria had been spending in the box. The Blizzard forced Minnesota's goalies to work in net, finishing with 45 shots and forcing 34 saves. Dakota McDonald made 11 stops and Spencer Mannes made 16. Alexandria bested its season scoring average. The Blizzard average 4.1 goals per game. Penalties took their toll on Alexandria, as its penalty kill unit let in three power play goals. The Blizzard got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game.

Alexandria also got points from Trent Olson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Joe Carney, who also had two goals and two assists, David Becker, who also registered one goal and one assist, Hall, who also tallied one goal and three assists, and Luke Pavelich, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Alexandria also got a goal from Tom Schmidt as well. More assists for Alexandria came via Austin Kilian, who had two, Nate Mettenburg, who had three, and Tanner Elmore, Tom Monteiro, Logan Norman, and Tony Arias, who contributed one each.

The Flying Aces forced Alexandria goalie Elmore to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Minnesota struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 30 penalty minutes for four opposing power plays.

The Flying Aces were helped by Ty Ennis, who had two goals. Ennis scored the first of his two goals at 10:57 into the third period to make the score 9-2 Alexandria. Tyler Leverty provided the assist. Ennis' next tally made the score 10-3 Alexandria with 5:58 left in the third period. Minnesota had gotten the advantage when the Blizzard's Schmidt was sent off for charging. Jesse Brown picked up the assist. Minnesota additionally got points from Travis Johnston, who also registered one goal and one assist. Zachary Johnston also scored for Minnesota. Other players who recorded assists for Minnesota were Bradee Thompson, who had two and Lucas Mutschelknaus, Blake Neumann, and Tyler Arenz, who each chipped in one.

Tanner Elmore made 30 saves for Alexandria on 34 shots. Team's Tyler Sworsky and Schmidt were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
