Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the La Crosse Freeze defeated the Peoria Mustangs in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO). The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Peoria got a shootout goal from Thomas Kolaz. In addition to the clincher, La Crosse got a shootout goal from Hunter Smith.The Freeze were sparked by Augusts Veidenbaums, who finished with one goal. Veidenbaums scored 7:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 La Crosse. Jack Sterne picked up the assist. La Crosse was led by Veidenbaums, who registered one goal. The Freeze's offense rang up 40 shots on the Mustangs' net. Others who scored for La Crosse included Jake Lipski and Travis Hall, who each put in one. More assists for La Crosse came via Jared Bromberg, Smith, Brady Thiering, Hunter Breza, and Chong Hyun Lee, who each chipped in one. Peoria forced La Crosse goalie Andrew Wagner to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Mustangs were led by Andrej Buchko, who racked up two goals. Buchko scored the first of his two goals at 15:34 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Peoria. Jason Hoehn assisted on the tally. Buchko's next tally made the score 3-3 with 14:33 left in the third period. Jason Henry picked up the assist. Mitchell McPherson also scored for Peoria. In addition, Peoria received assists from Marshall Gevers and Kolaz, who contributed one each. Wagner recorded 35 saves for the Freeze. La Crosse incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Marc Hayton made 36 saves for Peoria on 39 shots. The Mustangs incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
