West Michigan holds on for 5-4 win against Metro

The West Michigan Wolves survived a determined comeback attempt by the Metro Jets on the way to a 5-4 win.

West Michigan took a 5-2 lead during the second period, only to have Metro storm back on a Devin Kelly goal 18:00 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Wolves got the win on the strength of a great game by Dakota Ulmer, who had two goals and two assists. Ulmer scored the first of his two goals at 31 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-1 West Michigan. Ulmer's next tally made the score 5-2 West Michigan with 6:40 left in the second period. Michael Tratar picked up the assist.

West Michigan also got a goal from Devin Farkas as well. More assists for West Michigan came via Matt Shultz, Austin Buchholz, and Kyle Keeder, who contributed one each.

The Jets forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. Metro surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Jets kept West Michigan's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chase Stanford made 29 saves on 33 shots.

Metro was led by Cody Jones, who tallied two goals. Jones scored the first of his two goals at 2:39 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Cooper McLean provided the assist. Jones' next tally made the score 5-3 West Michigan with 18:17 left in the third period. McLean assisted on the tally. Ryan Bloom also scored for Metro. In addition, Metro received assists from Pearce Vance, Tyler Layle, Andrew Sawyer, TJ Krajewski, and Matt Dempsey, who each chipped in one.

The Wolves incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Kameron Limburg took the loss and made 17 saves before being replaced by Jake Stephan who made four saves. The Jets registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Metro ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Vance was ejected from the game.
