Kothenbeutel's hat trick boosts Granite City over Twin City, 12-1

The Twin City Steel could not stop the Granite City Lumberjacks' Travis Kothenbeutel, who tallied a hat trick in a 12-1 win.

Kothenbeutel notched his first tally 4:01 into the first period. He then added goals at 12:13 into the first and at 14:43 into the first.

Granite City gained an early advantage, leading 4-0 by the end of the first period.

Twin City was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as the Lumberjacks were able to score four times while on the power play.

Granite City forced Steel's goalies to work without much rest, launching 32 shots and forcing 20 saves. Robbie Goor made six stops and Darien Jones made 14. The Lumberjacks bested their season scoring average. Granite City averages 4.3 goals per game.

Granite City also got points from Alex Carson, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Alek Groth, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Granite City also got a goal from Will Mix as well. More assists for Granite City came via Kevin Finley, who had two, David Kenney, who had four, Zach Voss, Brady Bernhardson, Sam Zweiner, and Dallas Marvin, who contributed one each, and Tyler Mros, Tanner Skaja, and David Horsmann, who each chipped in three.

The Steel were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. Twin City surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. The Steel were held below their usual level of production. Twin City puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game.

Tom Reilly also scored for Twin City.

Jesse Garcia rejected 16 shots on goal for the Lumberjacks. Granite City ended with 36 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. The Steel registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
