Behind a great game by Luke Sunde, who had two goals, the Southern Tier Xpress defeated the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks, 4-1. Sunde found the back of the net on the power play 18:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Southern Tier and again while 9:40 into the third to make the score 3-1 Southern Tier.Southern Tier's Cody Gibson was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 33 saves and let only one puck past him. Gibson certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.7 entering the contest. The Xpress' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Cleveland power plays. Southern Tier forced Cleveland goalie Alec Rounds to work between the pipes, taking 61 shots. Southern Tier also had goals scored by Alec Hooper and Luke Grossman, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Southern Tier were Brandon Desrosiers, who had three and Curtis Carlson, Tobias Gabrielsen, and Mark Sunde, who contributed one each. The Jr. Lumberjacks' offense rang up 34 shots on the Xpress' net. Cleveland was led by Zack Mlady, who scored the team's only goal. Mlady scored 12:44 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Nathaniel Schwartz provided the assist. Southern Tier incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Rounds rejected 57 shots on goal for the Jr. Lumberjacks. Cleveland ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
